Platform of European Summer Music Academy in Kosovo
Building Bridges in the Western Balkans
Special Autumn/Winter 2020 Edition
The European Summer Music Academy (ESMA) in Kosovo is a longstanding initiative that brings together professional classical musicians – professors, students, budding artists – from the EU and the Western Balkans. The project is a unique opportunity for young South-East European musicians to study with world-class instructors, while also engaging with their Western Balkans peers and making music together.
In 2019, ESMA took place in four cities in Kosovo at the same time – a new record in ESMA’s history. However, the 2020 edition had to be remodelled, and with a SarS-CoV2 pandemic ongoing creative solutions had to be found.
ESMA 2020 thus moved online!
The focus remains on connecting young musicians and allowing them to work individually with confirmed performers and soloists from Western Europe. This year, as in the past, will include both solo work and orchestral training, with online masterclasses offered in singing, piano, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass and flute.
The 2020 edition will also include an orchestra project, with all participants contributing their individual recordings that will be combined and mastered into a virtual orchestra to be published soon after the end of the teaching process.
Young musicians form Albania, BiH, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia are invited to attend – Building Bridges in the Western Balkan!
The official ESMA language is English; hence, all applicants should have a sufficiently good command of that language.
