PLATFORM OF THE EUROPEAN SUMMER MUSIC ACADEMY IN KOSOVO
BUILDING BRIDGES IN THE WESTERN BALKANS
The European Summer Music Academy (ESMA) in Kosovo is a longstanding initiative that brings together professional classical musicians – professors, students, budding artists – from the EU and the Western Balkans. The project is a unique opportunity for young South-East European musicians to study with world-class pedagogues, while also engaging with their Western Balkans peers and making music together.
In 2019, ESMA took place in four cities in Kosovo at the same time – a new record in ESMA’s history. However, the 2020 edition had to be entirely reinvented because of the pandemic and took place exclusively online. While the pandemic is not vanquished yet, the 2021 edition can finally go live again!
The focus remains on connecting young musicians and allowing them to work individually with confirmed performers and soloists. This year, as in the past, will include both solo work and orchestral training, with masterclasses offered in piano, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, flute, clarinet, guitar.
The 2021 edition will be followed by an orchestra project, with all string instruments forming the Western Balkans Youth Orchestra that will go on tour in Pristina (14 Oct.), Skopje (15 Oct.) and Tirana (17 Oct.).
Young musicians form Albania, BiH, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia are invited to attend – Building Bridges in the Western Balkan!
The official ESMA language is English; hence, all applicants should have a sufficiently good command of that language.
